Face Card
A jack, queen, or king.
“I could tell my opponent was holding a Face Card , but I couldn't tell which one.”
Family Pot
When most (or all) of the players call the opening bet.
Everyone wanted a part of the Family Pot .
Fast Play
To play a hand aggressively by betting and raising as often as possible.
Fast Play can get a player into trouble if someone decides to call their bets.
Fifth Street
The fifth and final community card dealt. This card is also sometimes known as “the river”.
Fifth Street can make or break a hand.
Fish
A player who gives their money away. Quite simply, a fish is slang for a poor player.
“Fish are always welcome at my home game.”
Fixed Limit
A betting structure where the amount bet during each round is predetermined. A fixed limit is used in limit poker.
Fixed Limit poker is very different from no limit poker.
Floorperson
The person who makes all the rulings and decisions. The floorperson is an employee of the card room.
“It was clear to the Floorperson that the pot had to be split.”
Flop
In Texas Hold'em and Omaha , the first three community cards that are dealt face-up on the center of the table at one time.
“The Flop did not help any of the players.”
Flop %
The portion of the time a player sees the flop.
A player with a low Flop % is most-likely a tight player.
Flush
Any five cards of the same suit.
“My ace high Flush beats your king high Flush.”
Fold
To not match the bet when it is your turn to bet.
“The bet was enough to make all of his opponents Fold .”
Fold Equity
The value that you may obtain from the possibility that others will fold when you make a bet.
“My Fold Equity was $100 for that hand.”
Forced Bet
A required bet that starts the action on the first round of betting in a poker hand.
The big and small blinds are considered to be Forced Bets.
Foul
A hand that may not be played for some reason.
“The hand turned Foul very quickly.”
Fourth Street
In a flop game, it is the fourth community card dealt and represents the third round of betting. This is also referred to as “the turn”. In a Stud game, it is the fourth card to be dealt to each player and represents the second round of betting.
“She made it all the way to Fourth Street before being scared out of the hand.”
Free Card
A turn or river card that you don't have to call a bet because of a play earlier in the hand.
“I was hoping for a Free Card , but my opponent raised the stakes.”
Freeroll
(1.) One player has a shot at winning an entire pot when he is currently tied with another player, and there is no cost associated with winning.
(2.) A Freeroll is also sometimes referred to as a tournament with no entry fee.
“My favorite kind of tournament is a Freeroll .”
